Here’s a link about cardboard mulch.

April 2016
I’ve just started doing this on the front garden of 59 North Road. The plan is to mulch over the grass with cardboard then cover it with sand. You’ll find me skulking around Cathays on recycling day making off with piles of cardboard. Think of the transportation carbon miles I’m saving the council!
61 looks like this right now but will be getting the cardboard much treatment too! Anything to avoid having to mow the lawn!

The next step is to get some deck chairs and a sun lounger – pretend we’re at the beach.
In September we’ll be covering the sand with top soil and then planting the whole area with red clover seeds. These will germinate in the spring and provide a cover crop for our foraging honey bees.
February 2017
The cardboard did a great job of killing the grass and the worms loved it! I didn’t really have a lot of time to devote to this task and I didn’t bother taking off the packing tape which was all over the cardboard boxes. As the cardboard has rotted down over the winter I have been left with loads of nasty clear plastic everywhere so I’ve had to spend a load of time picking it out and hoeing and levelling the ground in readiness for the sand
I ordered a couple of tons of sand from the builder’s merchant and I have been breaking my back for the last few days….
This is as far as I got last Friday (24th Feb 2017). When I came back on the tuesday it was full of worm casts after the rain. I don’t think we’re going to have it looking like a caribbean beach for long! I’d better order the clover seeds quick!
